Parents Protest Catholic Firings

WXIA Atlanta/September 15, 2000

Parents of children who attend Donnellan Catholic School in Sandy Springs are demanding answers regarding some recent firings. They want to know why four popular administrators were dismissed.

The principal, coach, guidance counselor and middle school coordinator were all let go on Wednesday. The move came after the school began affiliating with a group called Legionnaires for Christ.

Parents say they were never notified about the partnership and know little about the group. After meeting for two hours Thursday night, many complained the board did not give them the answers they were looking for.

The parents plan a meeting this weekend to figure out what to do next. Many are threatening to pull their children out of the school. Board members have been told by the school's attorneys not to talk to the media.
