South Dakota sex case against Mormon church resolved

Sioux Falls, South Dakota - A federal lawsuit filed by a Native American man who accused a Mormon missionary of sexually abusing him in the 1960s has been resolved before going to trial.

Fifty-three-year-old Ferris Joseph sued the Mormon church, claiming he was sexually abused by missionary Robert Lewis White when Joseph was 11 or 12 years old.

White denies molesting Joseph or any other boy while serving in Flandreau (FLAN'-droo).

The trial was delayed so the South Dakota Supreme Court could decide a legal question.

But according to a court document, Joseph and the church have resolved the dispute and a federal magistrate judge dismissed it with both parties paying their own costs.

Lawyers for both sides say they can't discuss it.
