Factory owned by polygamist church on auction block

Arizona Republic/February 6, 2007

Hildale, Utah -- A 55-thousand-square-foot factory belonging to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hildale, Utah, is for sale.

Despite its remote location, bidders are expected for the property during an auction on Feb. 27.

It would be the first abandoned property to be sold to put cash into a trust that holds assets of the church.

The trust manager hopes to get $2 million for the building.

The building used to house Western Precision, a company owned and operated by followers of FLDS leader Warren Jeffs.

The company abandoned the building months ago and relocated to Nevada under a different name.

Proceeds from the sale would go to pay more than $600,000 in legal bills and taxes for the trust.
