FBI makes public taped conversations in hate crime case

Associated Press News/December 11, 2000

San Diego -- Recently filed affidavits reveal talk of violence by a San Diego man arresed in a federal hate crime case.

The FBI taped Robert Morehouse telling an informant that he might kill San Diego's regional director of the Anti-Defamation League, set fire to a synagogue and shoot down an airplane.

Morehouse's conversations were made public in sworn affidavits filed Friday. Morehouse's attorney says his client denies plotting anything violent.

Morehouse is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit a civil rights violation.

The case against Morehouse was unsealed in November after the FBI arrested two other men. The arrests resulted from a two-year investigation into a white supremacist cell whose members allegedly planned racially motivated violence.
