California: Former Radical Will Remain in Prison

New York Times/April 30, 2008

A judge has refused to free a former Symbionese Liberation Army member who was sent back to prison days after corrections officials released her by mistake. Judge Thomas Cecil of Sacramento County Superior Court said in a ruling that lawyers for the former radical, Sara Jane Olson, failed to show that corrections officials acted illegally and that Ms. Olson herself should have realized she was being freed too soon. Ms. Olson, 61, was mistakenly paroled on March 17 after six years in prison. She had pleaded guilty to the attempted bombing of Los Angeles police cars and to the killing of a customer during a 1975 bank robbery in suburban Sacramento. She had lived in Minnesota until her capture in 1999.
