Televangelist Benny Hinn whose ministry focuses on healing was admitted to a California hospital on Friday, a publicist has confirmed. Hinn was treated for reduced oxygen levels stemming from abnormal heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation, a condition he has experienced intermittently for over 20 years.

Doctors said there was no damage to his heart and they expect to release him from the hospital soon, his publicist said on Tuesday.

Hinn, who is 63, was returning from a weeklong crusade in Brazil when he felt a shortness of breath.

Televangelists like Benny Hinn, who is controversial among many in the United States for what some consider to be “health and wealth gospel” teaching, is popular across the globe in India and elsewhere. Pentecostals like Hinn teach beliefs about the power of hearing and miracles. His services draw thousands of people with physical and emotional maladies to his stage for healing and prayer.

Hinn drew political scrutiny after Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) launched an investigation into several ministers’ finances, including Hinn. The investigation concluded with no penalty for televangelists.

In 2010, The National Enquirer published photos of Hinn holding hands with televangelist Without Walls pastor Paula White in Rome; Hinn was married to Suzanne Hinn at the time. His wife filed for divorce in February 2010 but they remarried in 2013.

Millions of people have flocked to Hinn’s events held in large auditoriums and stadiums around the world, according to the Baptist Press. Hinn’s “This Is Your Day” television program airs in 200 countries.
