Two women charged in sex assaults

As two more people charged in connection with a string of gang sex assaults were granted bail Monday, a lawyer for the accused called the case "an epic obstruction of justice" orchestrated by an alleged Korean cult leader.

Two sisters were quietly brought to the College Park courthouse Monday without the media being notified of their arrests.

They're charged with threatening death, assault, forcible confinement and administering a drug for sex.

The charges come on the heels of the arrests of three men and warrants being issued for three others accused of gang sexual assaults against a teenaged girl and three young women who, according to police, met them through a Korean community church.

The three men, who appeared in court last week, were released on bail.

A fifth complainant came forward last week, prompting the charges against the two women - Yong Min Ham and Yong Mi Wham - who were granted bail with the consent of the Crown Monday, said the women's lawyer Jacqueline An.

"The allegations are disgustingly horrific," An said outside court, referring to the case as an "epic obstruction of justice."

An charged that the complainants made statements against the accused under the guidance of "cult leader" Pastor Jae-Gap Song. She said all of the accused - including the women, who are Song's nieces - were ex-parishioners of Song's church.

None of the allegations - those from police and the ones from An - have been proven in court.

"This is an act of terror against all these ex-parishioners," An alleged, promising to present "compelling evidence" in the weeks to come.

"I'm not going to sacrifice my reputation and my career by fabricating a lie."

Accused of various counts of gang sexual assault, forcible confinement, threatening death, administering a drug for sex, assault and making child pornography are Hyung Jun Ha, 26, of Toronto; Jong Il Lee, 33, of Orangeville; and Sang Cheol Lee, 37, of Toronto.

Nation-wide warrants were issued for Jin Hyun Kim, 33, Yoon Hyun Cho, 26, and Jung Jay Lee, 26, all of Toronto, police said.
