Diocese Dealing With New Sex Abuse Suit

Leader of German colony gets torture sentence added to current term

ABC 9 News KCAU/March 28, 2008

The Diocese of Sioux City is facing another sex abuse lawsuit.

This one adds to a prior lawsuit accusing two former priests of molestation.

The plaintiff, Joseph Kestel, claims he was molested by clergy members while growing up in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Kestel says the abuse happened on weekend get-togethers at the hands of John Perdue, a seminary student at the time, and former Diocese priest, John Kurzak.

Kestel's lawsuit mirrors another filed this month by Jeffrey Steinke.

Both claim the weekend trips included getting young boys intoxicated, forcing them to watch pornography, taking inappropriate pictures, and molesting them.

The Diocese released a statement on the first lawsuit confirming Perdue and Kurzak did work for the diocese, but it has no comment on this latest suit.
