Several members of a militia that have been occupying federal land in Oregon -- including Ammon and Ryan Bundy -- have been arrested after a weeks-long standoff with law enforcement, authorities said.

Around 4:25 p.m., federal officials moved in to try to take several militia members into custody at the Malheur National Wildlife refuge. Shots were fired during the arrest and one individual -- the subject of a probable cause arrest -- was killed, the FBI said. No name was available.

Another suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken into custody.

Among those arrested were brothers Ammon and Ryan Bundy, sons of Cliven Bundy, a Nevada rancher who engaged in a standoff with the federal government, in 2014.

All seven suspects were hit with a felony charge of conspiracy to impede officers of the United States from discharging their official duties through use of force, intimidation, or threats.

The FBI's Phoenix Division also made a probable cause arrest in Arizona. Jon Eric Ritzheimer, 32, was arrested on a federal charge related to the armed occupation of Malheur after turning himself in to the Peoria, Arizona, police department. He faces one federal felony charge of conspiracy to impede officers of the United States from discharging their official duties through the use of force, intimidation, or threats, according to an FBI statement.

The occupation began in early January as a protest against the prison sentences of ranchers Dwight Hammond, Jr. and his son Steven, who were convicted of setting fires on federal lands.

They eventually capitulated to serve their prison sentences.
