Romney raised millions in Utah

Associated Press/February 22, 2008

Salt Lake City - They gave him votes and money, too.

Utahns opened their checkbooks for Mitt Romney. Federal election records show the former Republican presidential candidate raised $6 million in Utah since January 2007.

Romney got 90% of the vote in Utah's Feb. 5 primary election but dropped out of the race a few days later.

Joe Hunter, chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Chris Cannon, says Romney's financial success in Utah was stunning.

Like a majority of residents, Romney is Mormon. He also ran the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, now is telling supporters to help elect John McCain.
