Feds working Colorado City corruption probe

The Las Vegas Review-Journal/July 29, 2011

Federal authorities have been conducting a corruption investigation in Colorado City, Ariz., this week. Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan said FBI agents and others are focusing on allegations involving city government and the town marshal's office.

"I can confirm that we've been working with Department of Justice officials from the Civil Rights Division in Washington, D.C.," Sheahan said. "We have been working together on various issues for close to two years and they're following up on some of the information."

Sheahan said he is not at liberty to disclose further details.

Colorado City and the neighboring community of Hildale, Utah, are home to some 6,500 members of a polygamy practicing sect, the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Church leader Warren Jeffs, 55, is on trial in Texas on child sexual assault charges.
