New charges filed against accused Broward 'psychic'

Sun Sentinel, Florida/April 27, 2010

Fort Lauderdale - A self-professed psychic accused of defrauding a client out of thousands and thousands of dollars was back in court Tuesday morning to face new charges - of defrauding another client out of thousands and thousands of dollars.

Gina Marie Marks, 37, of Hollywood, was charged last month with fraudulently taking almost $300,000 in cash, merchandise and gift cards from a client. Authorities say Marks told the client she would return the money after cleansing it of spiritual impurities.

She also made the client undergo a series of bizarre rituals, such as taking a jog while wrapped in cellophane, according to a complaint affidavit in the case.

News of those allegations led another victim to come forward, according to the Broward State Attorney's Office. That victim told investigators that Marks convinced her to turn over about $157,000.

Marks has been charged with additional counts of scheming to defraud and grand theft. She is already being held without bond on a parole violation. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
