A subsidiary of the Samanta Roy Institute of Science and Technology is in the process of purchasing the Best Western Village Haus and Villager Family Restaurant, according to license applications filed at City Hall.

The applications confirm rumors about the pending sale that had been circulating around the community for the past several weeks.

The purchase will bring the total of properties bought by SIST and its subsidiaries in the area to a nearly $12 million value, an amount that has more than doubled in the last six months.

According to the city assessor's office, the fair market value of the Best Western is $2.97 million. The 89-room Best Western will be the second motel in the area owned by Midwest Hotels, which purchased the 46-room AmericInn last November.

The Shawano Common Council will hold a special meeting May 24 to approve the Class B beer and liquor licenses for Midwest Hotels and Motels of Shawano, LLC., as well as soft drink and cigarette licenses for the property.
