ROC introduces interim pastors

The Richmond Outreach Center on Saturday introduced two interim pastors who will take over spiritual duties at the church as the board of directors continues to look for a permanent replacement for disgraced pastor Geronimo Aguilar.

Jonathan Falwell, who was brought in as an adviser and consultant in June, told the congregation that P.J. Preston and David Wheeler would fill in while the ROC, as it is known, continues its nationwide search.

Both pastors are associated with Liberty University. Falwell is pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg.

The church’s business operations will continue to be handled by its board of directors and an executive committee.

Bringing in the two pastors fills a void created in June when Aguilar and three other pastors stepped down from the South Richmond megachurch.

Aguilar, who was the founding pastor and face of the church, stepped down in June after Texas authorities charged with him with the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl and her sister in the late 1990s.

Aguilar’s brother Matthew Aguilar, along with Andrew Delgado and Jason Helmlinger, quit at the same time.
