Geronimo Aguilar's lawyers ask for one-year delay

CBS 6 News, Virginia/September 4, 2014

Tarrant County, Texas — Lawyers for the former pastor of Richmond’s largest church are asking for a year’s delay before he goes to trial.

Geronimo Aguilar, known to many as Pastor G, faces charges he had sex with underage girls in Texas in 1996 and 1997.

Prosecutors had asked that Aguilar have a speedy trial.

The judge could rule later this week on the conflicting motions at which time Aguilar’s trial date will be set.

Aguilar was indicted on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14, a first-degree felony that carries a maximum punishment of life in prison.

He was also indicted on three counts of sexual assault of a child under 17 and three counts of indecency with a child—all of which are second-degree felonies punishable by a maximum of 20 years in prison.
