Former Chester 'Skinhead' gets 15 years prison on gun charges

Columbia, South Carolina -- A known gang member from Chester was sentenced to 15 years in prison Wednesday in federal court.

In September, William Lee Jones, 28, pled guilty to being a felon in possession of firearms, according a release from the U.S. Attorney’s office in Columbia.

The sentence handed down Wednesday by Judge Cameron McGowan Currie of Columbia will be followed by five years of supervised release.

Evidence presented at an earlier change of plea hearing established that on July 22, 2012, officers with the Chester County Sheriff’s Office investigated a home burglary in which two firearms were stolen, a 20 gauge and a .22 caliber rifle. Three days later, officers learned that Jones had told someone that he had guns for sale, according to the release.

The next day, Jones sold the weapons to a confidential informant and an undercover officer for $250. The transaction occurred behind Jones’ mother’s home in Chester.

During the sale, Jones indicated that he could get other guns to sell.

During his sentencing hearing, Jones admitted he's a former Skinhead gang member.
