Bridgeport -- A member of the White Wolves supremacist group, accused of shoving a Stratford police officer during a rally outside a gay and lesbian meeting, vowed Wednesday to take his case to trial.

Matthew Zrallack, 18, of Roosevelt Avenue, refused to take part in plea bargaining at Superior Court and his case was set for a Dec. 19 pre-trial date. He is charged with third-degree assault, breach of peace and intimidation based on bigotry and bias.

"My client maintains his innocence and is looking forward to his day in court," said his lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Anna Del Mastro.

Assistant State's Attorney Susan F. Filan, who is prosecuting the case, had no comment.

Zrallack was arrested May 21 after a protest by the White Wolves outside the Stratford Library, where plans for a gay and lesbian center were being discussed.

Police said Zrallack, whose brother Kenneth is the group's leader, got into a scuffle with officers inside in the library.

Matthew Zrallack was pushing people against the wall, trying to get out of the library, police said. A plainclothes detective took his arm to stop him, and he allegedly then grabbed the officer by the throat.

On June 19, Zrallack was again arrested outside his home after police said officers saw him punching another teen.
