Lusaka - Agenda for Zambia president Akashambatwa Mbikusita Lewanika has supported the Unification Church of Reverend Sun Myung Moon.

Lewanika, in a speech when he introduced World president for the Women Federation of World Peace, Hak Ja Han Moon, at a conference in Harare last week, said the couple had initiated many religious, intellectual, recreational and peace monitoring organisations over the last 40 years.

Han Moon is the wife of Unification Church founder Sun Myung Moon.

"Dr. Moon is a remarkable crusader for peace, spiritual leader, humanitarian, mother, grandmother and woman of her own substance," Lewanika said.

Moon is on a worldwide tour of lectures with the theme "The Path of Life for Humankind Families of True Love: The Gateway to Happiness in the New Millennium."

The tour has already taken her to South Africa, Kenya and Uganda. The Zimbabwe meeting attracted participants from all the Southern African countries, after which she proceeds to Benin.

Lewanika said he knew of the persecution of the Moonies and some opposing commentaries on their faith and activities.

"I am focused on their positive enlightening and productive work on the ground in people's lives. I have an open mind about religious, economic and social activities of all communities," he said.
