Johnny Depp Dabbled in Scientology to Make Extra Money

Yahoo News/October 4, 2011

Johnny Depp is the onion of A-list heartthrobs: just when you think you know everything there is to know, and read everything there is to read, he peels off another surprising layer of weirdness. In a new profile in Vanity Fair, Depp -- Hollywood's highest-paid actor -- unexpectedly sheds his "artistic muse of Tim Burton" persona and outs himself as a sellout.

"Basically, if they're going to pay me the stupid money right now, I'm going to take it," he confesses in the magazine's November issue. "I have to. I mean, it's not for me. Do you know what I mean? At this point, it's for my kids."

But that's not all! Writer Nick Tosches, a longtime friend of Depp's, reveals in his article that the "Pirates of the Caribbean" high-roller is "the same old Johnny" who once pumped gas to make a living and -- prepare to have your MIND BLOWN -- also joined Scientology study groups because they paid $3 per session.

"I went to a bunch man," Depp muses. "It was so great, it was so fantastic."
