Paul Thomas Anderson's Scientology Movie 'Postponed Indefinitely'

New York Magazine/September 20, 2010

Ah, crap. According to Jeremy Renner - who'd been cast in the film as the apprentice of Philip Seymour Hoffman's L. Ron Hubbard-esque cult-leader character - Paul Thomas Anderson's untitled, Vulture-anticipated Scientology movie is "postponed indefinitely at this point." He tells Total Film (via the Playlist): "I was really bummed about that. It really kind of stalled because when we were rehearsing - Phil, Paul and myself - we kept coming up against a wall that we couldn't overcome. Or at least Paul couldn't overcome." Heartbreaking. On the plus side, though, this should make things a little less awkward on the set of Mission Impossible 4.
