Alamo ministry member pleads guilty to sex charge

Fort Smith, Arkansas -- Federal prosecutors say a member of Tony Alamo Christian Ministries who was accused of sexually abusing a child has pleaded guilty.

The U.S. Attorney's office for the Western District of Arkansas says 59-year-old Douglas Christopher of Valparaiso, Ind., pleaded guilty Wednesday to knowingly transporting a minor from Oklahoma to Arkansas with the intent to engage in sexual activity.

Prosecutors say Christopher is a member of the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries and previously lived at an Alamo compound in Muldrow, Okla.

Prosecutors say Christopher took a girl across the state line to Fort Smith, Ark., to have sex.

Christopher could face up to life in prison. He will be sentenced later.

Alamo is serving a 175-year prison sentence after he was convicted of taking minor girls across state lines for sex.
