Ex-policeman says Aum exploited him over shooting of NPA chief

Japan Today/July 10, 2004

Tokyo -- A former police officer who was a member of the Aum Shinrikyo cult has said he feels the cult exploited him so it could carry out the 1995 shooting of then National Police Agency chief Takaji Kunimatsu, investigative sources said Friday.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department believes an "execution squad" of the cult intended to manipulate Toshiyuki Kosugi in his job as a policeman to enable it to get past security checks and possible police questioning.
