California victim of clergy abuse arrested in violent priest beating 35 years later

San Jose, Calif. - A man who says he was abused by a Jesuit priest as a young child has been arrested for allegedly tracking the clergyman to his retirement home and beating him severely.

William Lynch of San Francisco was booked Friday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after his attorney negotiated his surrender to the Santa Clara sheriff's department.

Authorities allege Lynch talked his way into the Sacred Heart rest home in Los Gatos and attacked 65-year-old priest Jerold Lindner with his fists.

His attorney, Pat Harris, says Lynch will plead not guilty.

Lindner has denied abusing anyone and has not been charged.

Lynch and his younger brother reached a $625,000 settlement in 1998 over the alleged abuse, which the brothers say occurred in 1975 while on camping trips.
