Former Catholic brother pleads guilty to additional sex abuse charges

Radio New Zealand/August 16, 2006

A former Catholic brother who was imprisoned last year for sexually abusing boys, has had his sentence increased after admitting he committed further abuses.

John Louis Stevenson, 67, pleaded guilty in the Wellington District Court on Tuesday to another eight charges of indecently assaulting boys.

The latest charges relate to three boys and occurred between 1979 and 1982; when Stevenson was employed at Hato Paora Maori Boys School in Feilding.

Judge Bruce Davidson yesterday sentenced Stevenson to 18 months prison on each charge. That will be added to a sentence imposed last December, taking Stevenson's total prison term to five years.
