14 alleged clergy abuse victims announce $6.65 million in settlements

Associated Press/May 29, 2007

Chicago -- The Archdiocese of Chicago says n1 of the 12 priests accused in recently settled sexual misconduct lawsuits are in active ministry.

Susan Burritt, media relations director for the Archdiocese, says the priests have been removed from public ministry or are deceased.

The Archdiocese has reached 6.6-5-(M)million-dollars in settlements with 14 people who claim they were abused by Chicago-area priests.

Attorney Jeffery Anderson says the settlements cover lawsuits filed against 12 priests.

The settlements don't apply to a lawsuit that Anderson filed last year asking the Archdiocese of Chicago to release its files on priests accused of abuse.

That lawsuit is still pending.
