Religious Leader Charged with Hiding a Corpse Will Not Stand Trial

WEAU News 13, Wisconsin/January 16, 2009

The religious leader accused of helping a follower hide a dead body on a toilet will not go to trial. The Juneau County District Attorney's Office says Alan Bushey's trial is cancelled and there's a plea hearing set for February 5th. The D.A.'s office says there is a plea agreement in place.

The 58-year old is charged with hiding a corpse, two counts of causing mental harm to a child and two counts of theft. Prosecutors say Bushey and Tammy Lewis kept 90-year-old Magdeline Middlesworth's dead body in a bathroom for months. Investigators say Bushey and Lewis wanted to collect Middlesworth's social security checks.
